I have been a passionate music fan since I was ten years old when I bought my first vinyl LP, Led Zeppelin I.
It was actually my second LP as my next door neighbour gifted me an A1/B1 pressing of Black Sabbath’s Paranoid LP as he had received it as a birthday gift, but found it too heavy for him. Cheers Bernard Murray, you old folkie that you are! 😂
I listen to all genres of music from Classical, to Jazz, to Punk, Post Punk, Indie, Prog, and everything in between. Since I started listening to music I have gone through phases of listening to particular genres, but at the end of the day I dislike the categorisation of music in to the straitjacket definitions of a genre…I either like something or I don’t, it’s that simple.
Purely by accident I ended-up working in the computer and electronics industries for multinational corporations, when really what I wanted to do was working in the music industry. In 2012 I took a one year sabbatical and went back to university full time for 12 months, to study for a Masters in Music Industry Management & Promotion.

After a 32 year career in Global Procurement and Supply Chain – working for Racal, Hewlett Packard, Philips Electronics, Sun Microsystems, Scottish Enterprise, Motorola, Electrolux, Jabil, Bombardier, eaga, Carillion, and Heineken – I decided to step away from big Corporate jobs, and founded my own company in the music business, Radical Independent Music Limited in May 2015.
I am a musicologist, music journalist, published author, gig promoter, and band manager, and between 2015 and 2024 I was also a global vinyl record dealer.
I am also a Viking, a Marxist, a dialectical materialist, an aethiest, a rock climber, and a Japanophile.
In the Spring of 2026 I will be permanently relocating to Ubon Ratchatani in northeastern Thailand.
